Good Morning Gitmo

In July of 2014, The Annoyance Theater hired Chicago based writers Mishu Hilmy and Eric Simon to write a show about Guantanmo Bay Detention Center. And they came up with Good Morning Gitmo, a dark comedy about a Warden's attempt to keep the spirits of his staff and detainees up by making a cheerful morning talk show . The one act play had its first preview on 9/11. And opened 9/25. The original production was directed by Kyle Dolan and ran until November sixth.

10/23 and 10/30 Mishu Hilmy had to take the role of Warden because the other one found a nice hiding spot in Cuba.

Good Morning Gitmo was devised by the ensemble over the course of the rehearsal process, using improvisation to expand the script. The Stand-Up comedy routine was written by original cast member Mike Geraghty. All improvised material was finally crafted and rewritten by Mishu Hilmy and Eric Simon. The play was completed in 55 days.
